Q12. Where to Use Compression Type Dead-End Clamp?

Compression dead end clamps are designed mainly for extra high voltage lines (EHV).

These dead end tension clamps provide a high electrical continuity.

Compression dead end aerial clamp has high mechanical toughness.

To use in distribution lines, compression dead end clamp bolted types are mostly preferred.

It is because of their easy and quick installation process.

They are low maintenance and offer excellent continuity of the current and jumper.

But sometimes, because of vibration, they do not conduct the thermal increase properly, and it causes damage.

Compression dead end strain clamp having less diameter or dimensions is most preferably used.

It is mainly due to its property of excellent current continuity.

These Rayphen compression tension clamps are suitable to use in combination with AAAC, ACSR, and AAC.

The installation of a compression dead end clamp requires a crimper of high mechanical strength and small diameter.

Specifically, the crimper used for all aluminum conductors should be of diameter 16mm.

Whereas, 14mm diameter crimper is suitable for ACSR conductors.

Q13. How to Install Compression Dead-End Clamp for ACSR Conductors?

Installing a compression dead end clamp is not complex.

All you need is a few simple tools and concentration.

The tools include compression press, AH and SH dies, trimming tool for conductors, strand removing tool, hammer, filler compound filler, etc.

Here we will tell you the whole procedure of compression dead end clamp installation.

  • First, mark your conductor at ¾ of the distance of the body (aluminum).
  • Properly clean the edges of the conductor with a piece of cloth or brush.
  • Before cutting the strand of a conductor, cover the ends with tape to keep the round contouring.
  • Insert the body of the dead end clamp and slide past it along the conductor till adequate conductor length protrudes from the end.
  • Cut the strands a little more than the equal depth of the forging barrel.
  • The trimming tool for cable comes in handy for the above step.
  • Now, put the core into the barrel.
  • Compress the barrel through SH dies set to make it adjacent to the rib, very close to the barrel.
  • Overlap the compressions by 6.44mm.
  • Make sure to die to close each compression.
  • Now, slide the body on the forging so that the tongue ends against the washer and eye shoulder.
  • At this stage, align the eye and tongue for proper orientation to mount the string (insulator).
  • Inject the filler compound through the filler hole so that it comes out from the washer.
  • Place the filler plug on a hole and strike with a hammer to peen the hole edge.
  • With the help of the AH die set, make compression at the ‘start’ point, which is the closest to the tongue.
  • Overlap compressions by ¼ inches.
  • Now, press ‘stop’.
  • Remember to die close to every compression.
  • Using AH die, press compression dead end clamp body against ACSR conductor.
  • Now compress the ‘start’ point and overlap compressions.
  • As the last step, press the ‘stop’ point with die closure.
  • The installation of a compression dead end clamp for ACSR conductors is complete.
  • The dead end compression part must be smooth and have a uniform surface.

Note: you can oil the grooves of the die and sleeve for better results during installation.

All these measures will make you get the right product according to your need.

Q18. Why is it Important to Increase Surface Area of Dead-End Clamp at High Temperature?

When the power increase, the temperature increases automatically.

In such a case, high-temperature tolerant conductors are attached to the Rayphen dead end clamps.

The temperature bearing capacity of these conductors can be up to 235°C.

The dead end clamp used in high-temperature conditions should not have any effect on the extra heating.

Therefore, it is wise to increase the surface area and the mass of the dead end clamp.

This will ultimately lead to reduced thermal losses or stress.

Q19. How to Determine the Correct Breaking Load for Dead-End Clamp?

Breaking load is something that you cannot ignore if you deal with conductors, clamps, and other electrical connections.

It is the amount of stress or pressure applied quite steadily that can break the conductor or dead end clamp.

Well, you need to worry about the breaking load calculation and determination.

The correct breaking load is already mentioned on the Rayphen dead end hardware.

Most of the authentic dead end clamps come with these written values on them or the user manual.

Q26. Is Dead-End Clamp Fire Proof?

Yes, Rayphen dead end clamps are fire and explosion-proof.

You all know there are tiny invisible water vapors in the sky all the time that cause humidity.

And sometimes the weather is rainy.

In such cases, installing a fireproof dead end clamp is intelligent.

When the moisture comes in contact with the dead end clamp surface, it will cause an electric spark if it is not fireproof.

This spark leads to severe damage in the form of fire or explosion.

To avoid this, proper zinc layering and hot-dip galvanized technology are introduced for dead end clamp manufacturing.

It makes the dead clamp not only fireproof but also waterproof.
